As we make our way towards the New Year a new round of Ironman racing begins shortly as 2013 WTC Ironman Triathlon season kicks off in January.
SEASONS FIRST IRONMAN 70.3 EVENTS
Ironman 70.3 Pucon-January 13, 2013 in Chile will have the honor of beginning a new year of racing for the WTC family of races and is one of three Ironman 70.3 races to take place in January.
This race has become very popular since it’s inception in 2008 when it first became part of the Ironman family.
Young Brazilian Guilherme Manocchio took top honors in 2012 for the pro women and Carla Stampfli of Switerland led from start to finish for the pro women.
Ironman South Africa 70.3-January 20, 2013 will be the sixth edition of the race and the champions for Ironman 70.3 South Africa 2012 were Belgium’s Marino Vanhoenacker for the pro men and Jodie Swallow of great Britain for the pro women. (Photo Credit: Craig Muller)
This is a very popular race and is currently Sold Out.
Ironman 70.3 Aukland-January 20th and will be the Aisa Pacific Championship.
Bevan Docherty is a double Olympic Medalist and will be making his first full Ironman distance start on March 2, 2013 when he takes on Ironman New Zealand.
Ironman 70.3 Aukland will be his tune-up event for the big race as he attempts to join the ranks of many great professional athletes who have competed with so much success under the New Zealand flag.

Ironman New Zealand in Taupo—March 2, 2013
2012 will be the 29th anniversary of Ironman New Zealand and this very popular member of the WTC family draws athletes from all the world who love to take in the stunning scenery the venue has to offer. New Zealand hospitality and the pure Kiwi spirit is also a driving force behind the popularity of the race.
Race organizers will be hoping for much better weather conditions as the 2012 race had to be shortened for the safety of the athletes.
Perhaps the biggest news of all is that Bevan Docherty will be making his full Ironman debut in Taupo.
Ironman Los Cabos-March 13, 2013 In May of 2012 it was announced that a new Ironman race would be taking place in Los Cabos, Mexico at the tip of the Baja Peninsula in Baja California, Mexico. Ironman Los Cabos will no doubt grow to be just as popular as Ironman 70.3 Cozumel and Ironman Cozumel races that take place later in the year.
Nearly 1,500 participants from more than 50 countries are expected for the inaugural event in 2013. Ironman Los Cabos offers a professional prize purse of $75,000 and 50 coveted age-group slots to the 2013 Ironman World Championship, taking place on Oct. 12, 2013. Ironman Melbourne-March 24, 2013 will also be the Asia-Pacific Championship.
Headlining the race will be Caroline Stephen who will be on hand to defend the title she won in Ironman Melbourne 2012.
One reason the race attracts many of the worlds top pros is the fact that because it is the IRONMAN Asia-Pacific Championship Melbourne race it will have USD $125,000 up for grabs for the top pro finishers.
