Ironman 70.3 Victoria Results 2016

Heather and Trevor Wurtele race for podium spots in Ironman 70.3 Victoria Results 2016.

On Sunday June 12, 2016 Ironman 70.3 Victoria provided Heather and Trevor Wurtele an opportunity to race on Canadian soil once again.

Heather Wurtele was nothing short of spectacular in winning the Ironman 70.3 North American Championship 2016 in St. George Utah.

Trevor Wurtele also had an outstanding race in Utah finishing fifth in a very high caliber field. It was an all-around great day for Canada at the 70.3 Championship with Lionel Sanders winning and Brent McCoy and Trevor Wurtele finishing fourth and fifth.

It was quite a charge to the swim finish line for the pro men as no less than 6 swimmers finished within 57 seconds of each other. Jarrod Shoemaker of the USA edged out Canadain Adam O’Meara by four seconds to claim first place.

Matt Lieto also of the USA was third out of the water 53 seconds behind the leader. Canadian Trevor Wurtele was also one of those right in the middle of the chase pack and in the mix.

NOTE: The swim portion of the race was reduced to 1500 meters due to a thick weed bed on portions of the lake.

As the swim began for the pro women one would have thought that Heather Wurtele would have to have two flat tires, break a chain, and be struck by lightning in order to not be on top of the podium in the Ironman 70.3 Victoria Results 2016 once the dust settled.

Canadian Rachel Mcbride also seemed a strong possibility for a podium finish and appeared to be the main competition.

Not surprisingly, it was Heather Wurtele and Heather McBride coming out of the water first and second. They had times of 19:58 and 20:30 respectively.

Americans Amanda Wendorff, Robin Pomeroy, and Sarah Cameto all had excellent swims as well and were tightly bunched in third, fourth, and fifth.

At the 36.7km marker Heather Wurtele had extended her lead over Rachel McBride to 1:29. Amanda Wendorff of the USA was in third place just 2:46 off the pace.

As the leaders began reaching transition two it was Heather Wurtele with a lead of 3:02 over Jen Annett who had passed Rachel McBride on the bike course. When McBride reached transition she was 5:08 back of the leader.

It’s my guess Heather Wurtele will ease off the accelerator and win by about 7 minutes. Most likely some rest scheduled for her in the upcoming days after sensational performances in the past weeks.

Oh well, I could be wrong. Heather is actually leading by seven minutes at the 10k mark. It’s quite possible that her speedometer only has one reading…..all out.

Okay, belay that…. Heather Wurtele has just crossed the finish line 6:30 ahead of Malindi Elmore and claims the top on the podium in the Ironman 70.3 Victoria results 2016.

She is the consummate pro and did exactly the right thing. No need at all to win by double digits.

Ironman 70.3 Syracuse Results 2016

Age-group athletes center-stage in Ironman 70.3 Syracuse Results 2016.

In the past Ironman 70.3 Syracuse hosted many top pro athletes but the 2016 edition is highlighted by age-group athletes only.

The 1.2-mile swim took place in Jamesville Reservoir and it was one loop. The 56-mile bike took the athletes through the rolling hills of the surrounding countryside, and the race finished with a 13.1-mile run in Jamesville Beach County Park.

The fastest male swim split of the day for all age groups was posted by Shawn Parkhurst of the 25-29 age category with a very fast time of 24:01.

Julie Erhart was the fastest female with a time of 28:44. She was also in the 25-29 age category.

Kevin Bouchard-Hall posted a sizzling 2:19:03 on the 56-mile bike course and nobody was even close to that time. Bouchard-Hall represented the 30-34 age category. If memory serves, the fastest half-ironman bike split ever recorded was around 1:58.

Kristen White posted a 2:43 bike split and it appears to be the fastest of the day among all the female entries.

As the run began it was Clayton Fettell of Australia well in front. Fellow Australian Cameron Wurf entered the run/bike transition in second place but was about six minutes behind Fettell. They both posted bike splits of 4:23 with Fettell faster by a mere six seconds.

Wurf was running his first race as a professional and finished the bike in front of some of the top pros in the world. However he was five minutes slower in the swim than Fettell and that was here his deficit came from.

Luke McKenzie was third into transition and had ten minutes to make up on the leader.

As the run progressed there was quite a few changes on the leaderboard. Clayton Fettell called it a day and Cameron Wurf fell off the pace. With about 17km to run it was Tim Van Berkel leading David Dellow by just over two minutes.

With less than four km’s to run Van Berkel was ahead by four minutes and on his way to a win in the Ironman Cairns results 2016. David Dellow was second with Peter Jacobs nine minutes further back in third. The only podium spot that seemed to be up for grabs in the late stages was third place as Brad Kahlefeldt was just over two minutes behind in fourth.

Tim Van Berkel is the winner or Ironman Cairns 2016 after placing second in Ironman Cairns 2013 and 2014.

It would be a much more difficult task for the Australian pro women to dominate the podium. It would mean fending off seasoned Ironman pros like Jodie Swallow of Great Britain and Michelle Bremer of New Zealand. That’s a difficult task at the best of times.

FEMALE PRO START LIST

Corbin, Linsey
Crowley, Sarah
Fitch, Ali
Morrison, Tracy
Hallett, Kristy
Hayes, Tamsyn
swallow, jodie
Keat, Rebekah
Bremer, Michelle
COOGAN, KYM

As if to prove the point it was Jodie Swallow completing the swim in a time of 49:06. She was the only female pro to break the 50 minute barrier and she was three minutes ahead of Australian Rebekah Keat as she began the bike leg.

PRO WOMEN SWIM TIMES

Hallett, Kristy 01:03:21
Hayes, Tamsyn 01:06:37

Jodie Swallow stretched out her lead to twenty minutes at the 14km mark on the run course. Sarah Crowley was second, Michelle Bremer third, and Linsey Corbin fourth. Historically the fastest runner of the first four was Linsey Corbin and chances are she would be standing somewhere on the podium in the final Ironman Cairns results 2016.

At the 33km mark Swallow was still well in front. As expected, Linsey Corbin was making a charge and worked her way up from fourth to second place.

However there seemed to be far too much ground to make up on Swallow in order to challenge for the win, but stranger things have happened in Ironman racing.

Jodie Swallow does manage to hang on and is the first female pro across the line in the Ironman Cairn results 2016. Linsey Corbin finishes in second place and during the race had a bike crash and a five minute penalty or it might’ve been a very different outcome.

As it was she finished just over six minutes behind Swallow. Sarah Crowley in in line to take the final spot on the podium with just one kilometer left to run.

Seattle Rock and Roll Marathon Results 2016

Top runners race for podium in Seattle Rock and Roll Marathon Results 2016.

The 8th annual Seattle Rock and Roll Marathon began at Seattle Center and would eventually lead the runners from 2nd Avenue to South Dearborn Street. A long stretch on Rainier Avenue took the runners to Genessee Street and the beginning of mile nine that would lead them to Lake Washington Blvd.

The next six miles included cicrling around Seward Park before heading back to the I-90 and the turn-around at Mercer Island at about the 21.5 mile mark. Once the runners cleared the tunnel There was just over two miles to go to the finish line at CenturyLink field.

Here is a look at some of the top marathon finishers from 2015.

Please note that these results are being posted as race is in progress. Results are not official and will be updated at 7 p.m. once official times are in place. Personal net times may differ from leaderboard and times and placings may change.

For example if you started the race five minutes after the group in front of you those runners would have to cross the finish line 5:01 ahead of you in order to beat your time by one second. On the other hand, if you crossed the finish line 4:59 after them, you would beat them by one second.

Most likely the first ten to cross the finish line are all under the same start gun time and would have started in the first group.

THE 2016 MARATHON

For the men Samuel Golitom Hadgu began the race quickly and set a torrid pace in the early going. His time of 34:12 at the 10km mark was a very fast time with over three quarters of the race to go.

It gave him a lead of 1:57 over Jeffery Stein who was running in second place. Alexander Rockhill was just over 2:56 off the leader’s pace in third place.

With the weather much cooler than sunny 2015 it would be interesting to see the difference in the finish times. It would also be interesting to see if Hadgu would be able to maintain his pace until the end or if he fades in the last 10km.

By the half-way point Hadgu was still running strong and his lead over Jeffery Stein was stretched to 3:15. Andrew Ivanov had passed Alexander Rockhill and taken over third place, but was 5:03 behind the leader.

At the 20-mile mark Samuel Golitom Hadgu was still running very strong. His lead over second place Jeffery Stein increased to 4:27. Andrew Ivanov was still solidly in third place but had slipped to 6:17 behind the leader. Alexander Rockhill was still in fourth but had 9:08 to make up.

There was no catching Samuel Golitom Hadgu and he is the first across the finish line in an unofficial time of 2:26:02 and tops the podium in the Seattle Rock and Roll Marathon Results 2016.

Jeffery Steiner finished in second place just over five minutes behind the winner and Andrew Ivanov was third almost two minutes behind Steiner.

Steve Vesback was fourth and Alexander Rockhill finished fifth 16 minutes behind the winner. Just 10 seconds separated fourth and fifth.

Much like in 2015, only the winner of the race was able to break the 2:30 mark. If the 2016 winning time becomes official it will be 11 seconds faster than 2015.

Just a reminder that although the finish order will be correct, the official finish times may be adjusted.
