Pro and age-group athletes featured in Ironman 70.3 Austin results 2017

Many races in 2017 have featured age-group athletes only, but Austin, Texas, perhaps the fittest city in America, welcomes both on Sunday October 29, 2017.

The race was kicked off with a 1.2-mile one-loop swim in Decker Lake. It was followed by a one-loop 56-mile bike through hilly farmland. The 13.1-mile run was three loops and took athletes along the Lake Decker shoreline.

TJ Tollakson was the class of the field as far as the bike leg going into the race and he showed why on the course.

Once he got to the front, he never looked back. He finished the bike with a lead of 2:54 over Justin Metzler who was in second place. Unfortunately, a very slow transition cost Tollakson much of his lead. He began the run with a lead of about one minute.

At the the one mile mark the lead was still one minute over Franz Loeschke who was hanging onto second. Justin Metzler was just two seconds behind him, and Taylor Reid was just ten seconds behind the leader.

By mile two, his lead was cut in half as Loeschke closed the gap. A mile later there was a lead change as Loeschke moved to the front.

By mile seven it was Loeschke with a lead of 90 seconds over Metzler who had moved into second.

Tollakson and Reid were two minutes off the pace.

Loeschke could not be caught and claims top spot on the podium in the Ironman 70.3 Austin results 2017.

Svensson beats Metzler by one second to claim second place.

It was a very strong field of pro women who answered the starting gun for the swim.

Exciting to see Canadian Paula Findlay in the race today. I believe this might be her very first pro start. She was one of Canada’s best international triathletes for several years.

Best of luck Paula!

Jennifer Spieldenner, Sarah True, Paula Findlay, and Jeanni Seymour were in a group of four leading the way on the bike course at the 25 mile mark. By the end of the bike, six women were through transition and onto the run course separated by 40 seconds.

A speedy transition vaulted True into the lead. At the one mile mark she was leading second place Paula Findlay by almost a minute.

True was unable to shake off Findlay who was matching her pace one minute back at the six mile mark. At mile nine nothing changed. Findlay was still a bit over a minute back, and a sure bet for second place at least as Jeanni Seymour was a full two minutes behind her in third spot.

Just past the ten mile mark and True had stretched out her lead to 1:30 over Findlay who was still well-placed in second. Jeanni Seymour was still in third, almost 4:30 off the pace of the leader.

Sarah True is the 2017 Ironman 70.3 Austin champion with a time of 4:21:18.

In just her first 70.3 start, Paul Findlay of Canada takes second place. Great job Paula!

Ironman 70.3 Arizona results 2017

Age-group athletes in the limelight in Ironman 70.3 Arizona results 2017

It was an all age-group race only and many excellent times were posted across all categories.

Paul Stevenson posted the fastest time of the day when he broke the tape in 4:07:37. It’s not that often that race winners come from the 18-24 age-group. As a rule endurance improves with age, so this could be a pro in the making with the best yet to come.

A case in point…..Sophie Chevrier was the fastest female on the day and she was racing in the 40-45 age-category. Her time was a very fast 4:35:56. Only two other women finished under the five hour mark.

Monica Folts of the 30-34 category crossed the line in 4:49:26, and Kyndal Sorenson from the 25-29 category posted a time of 4:59:10.

Congratulations to all those who took part in the race. I hope you all realized your race day goals.

Just as a side-note….Not everyone got to race today as Ironman 70.3 New Orleans was cancelled due to extreme weather conditions. Difficult situation for all concerned.

Pros and age-group athletes race for spots in Ironman 70.3 Miami results 2017

Once again, a strong international field of pro and age-group athletes descends on Miami to race in one of Florida’s favorite vacation destinations.

UNFORTUNATELY IRONMAN 70.3 NEW ORLEANS THAT WAS SET TO TAKE PLACE ON OCTOBER 22 AS WELL HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO EXTREME WEATHER CONDITIONS.

The race got underway with a group of five pro men finishing the swim within 55 seconds of each other. They all finished in under 27 minutes with Teylor Arboleda leading the way with a time of 26:03.

Jesper Svenson was just two seconds behind him and Marcus Fernandes was right there also, just five seconds behind the leader.

Igor Amorelli took over the lead on the bike course with his bike split of 2:08:21. Tim Rea was the only other male pro to finish the bike leg under 2:10. Amorelli began the run with a lead of just over three minutes on Rea.

The rest of the field had five minutes or more to make up.

For the pro women, it was Jennifer Spieldenner finishing the swim first with a time of 28:11. It gave her a 19 second lead over Ellie Salthouse. Leanda Cave was third across the swim finish with a time of 28:47.

They were the only three women to complete the swim in under 29 minutes.

Ellie Salthouse surged to the lead on the bike course and had a lead of just over two minutes on Canadian Angela Naeth who had taken over third place.

Jennifer Spieldenner was over six minutes back in third place as it turned into a two-woman race for top spot on the podium in the Ironman 70.3 Miami results 2017.

Ellie Salthouse continued on into the lead and by the seven mile mark had extended it to almost four minutes on Angela Naeth.

Naeth ran a couple of strong miles and at the ten mile mark had closed the gap to 3:20 and at 11.5 miles it was 3:06. At the 12 mile mark it was 2:44.

Much like the race for top spot for the pro men, Naeth would run out of room despite running the strongest in the last miles.

Ellie Salthouse claims the top spot on the podium in the Ironman 70.3 Miami results 2017 with a winning time of 4:19:57. Angela Naeth finishes in second place in 4:22:34. Sarah Lewis has an excellent finish to her race and claims the final spot on the podium with her finish time of 4:27:04.
