Ironman 70.3 Buffalo Springs results 2012

Ironman 70.3 Buffalo Springs is one of the most popular and challenging 70.3 races in the United States. The race takes place on Sunday June 24, 2012.

THE COURSE

The 1.2-mile swim takes place In Buffalo Springs Lake. The one-loop swim is rectangular in shape and will take swimmers in a counter-clockwise direction.

The 56-mile bike course is basically an out-and-back course with a few modifications. The course will prove to be challenging as it includes seven good-sized hills that are up to 1.2-miles in length. The grades range from 2.9% to 8.9%.

The Ironman 70.3 Buffalo Springs swim course is one-loop and counter-clockwise


The 13.1-mile run course is a single loop and also presents several challenging hills with the highest grade being 7.6%.

At first glance it would appear that Luke Bell, Michael Lovato, and Clayton Fettell might be the key players for podium positions, but Ollie Whistler could make his presence felt.

Many observers will see Luke Bell as being the favorite to win the race, but the Ironman being the Ironman, anything can happen.

IRONMAN 70.3 BUFFALO SPRINGS 2012 RACE-DAY

It was not unexpected that Clayton Fettell would be one of the first out of the water and he emerged side-by-side with James Bonney in a super-fast time of 21:52.

There was a large group who all came in at between the 22-minute and 23-minute mark.

James Bowstead posted the fastest bike time of 02:10:55.

Mike Lovato just seemed to be hiding in the weeds. He was 3-minutes off the lead after the swim and maintained contact in the bike and stole the race in the run and is the winner of Ironman 70.3 Buffalo Springs.

It was posting the fastest run time of 01:16:32 that made the difference as he nipped Joe Umphenour by just 28 seconds. It was simply a very well run race by Mike and he is full measure for his victory.

Amanda Stevens has just crossed the finish line and takes the win for the pro women.
