Top pros race for Kona Ranking Points and podium in Ironman 70.3 Calgary results 2014

It’s a busy weekend in the world of Ironman with no less than four races going on Sunday July 27.

Ironman Switzerland, Ironman Lake Placid, and Ironman Whistler will be in full swing while Ironman 70.3 Calgary is taking place.

Ironman Calgary has become a very attractive race for pro triathletes who want to pick up last minute Kona Ranking Points.

The top 40 male and top 28 female pros in the KPR as of July 27, 2014 (July Qualifiers) will be qualified to race in Kona 2014 so July 27 is the last day to be assured of a Kona slot.(originated on Ironmanlive)

There is another opportunity however as The highest scoring 10 male and 7 female pros in the KPR, not including the July Qualifiers, as of August 24, 2014 will qualify to race in Kona.(originated on Ironmanlive)

When the gun sounded to start the swim there seemed to be little doubt that either Jordan Rapp or Andy Potts would be the ones favored take the top spot in the Ironman 70.3 Calgary results 2014.

Interesting to note that Andy Potts is the defending champion of Ironman Lake Placid that is also taking place today.

It turns out that sunny Calgary, Alberta was a better option weather-wise as rain was expected all day in Lake Placid.

PRO MALE RACE

Andy Potts didn’t waste any time jumping into the lead. His swim time of 20:49 gave him a lead of 38 seconds over Brandon Marsh as he headed into transition one.

Brandon Ratika of the USA was third out of the water and Jordan Rapp was 1:30 back of the leader in seventh place.

By the halfway point of the bike Rapp was leading a pack of four that included Andy Potts, Will Clarke, and Brandon Marsh.

Much as expected it was Jordan Rapp and Andy Potts breaking away and they were separated by mere seconds as they began the 21k run. Will Clarke and Brandon Marsh were third and fourth a minute behind the two leaders.

Will Clarke had an excellent run and was in first place at the halfway mark but it was Andy Potts establishing himself in the lead by 30 seconds with just 4k to run.

In a perfectly executed run Andy Potts takes top spot on the podium in the Ironman Calgary 70.3 results 2014.

Will Clarke of Great Britain had an excellent race and crossed the line 36 seconds behind Potts. Brandon Marsh of the USA rounded out the podium.

Not to be outdone the field for the pro women also has it’s share of stars.

Rachel McBride, Emma-Kate Lidbury, and Amy Marsh were the three most likely to be facing off for top honors in the Calgary 70.3 Ironman results 2014.

It would also be no surprise to see Sara Gross work her way onto the podium if she’s on top of her game.

PRO FEMALE RACE

True to form it was Amy Marsh of the USA leading the way out of the water with a time of 24:00 but she had company as Lisa Mensink was right with her. Mandy Mclane was third out of the water and just seven seconds behind Marsh. Emma-Kate Lidbury was also in the mix 13 seconds back of the lead.

Canadian Rachel Mcbride had 55 seconds to make up on Marsh as she began the 90k bike course and she did that and much more.

By the time the 90k bike was in the books McBride was leading the race by 5:52 over Lisa Mensink also of Canada. Amy Marsh was in third about 50 seconds further back.

It was all Rachel McBride in the run as her lead grew into seven minutes and she won the race convincingly with a finish time of 4:07:19.
