THE RACE

Five pro males managed the swim in under 24 minutes and it was Clayton Fettell leading the way in 23:14.

Right behind him were Terenzo Bozzone, Matt Reed, Paul Ambrose, and Alex Reithmeier.

None of the pro men were able to establish any sort of a time cushion on the 56-mile bike course and five of them entered the bike/run transition less than one minute apart.

It seemed likely that the three podium spots in the Ironman 70.3 Lake Stevens results 2014 would be decided between Terenzo Bozzone, Paul Ambrose, Ben Hoffman, Matt Reed, and Clayton Fettell.

At the halfway point of the 13.1-mile run you could’ve pretty well thrown a blanket over the two leaders. Terenzo Bozzone and Ben Hoffman were running side-by-side and Matt Reed was just 18 seconds behind the leaders watching it all.

Paul Ambrose and Clayton Fettell were also running together, but they were 3:25 back of the leaders.

With one mile to go the side-by-side race continued and it looked like it would come down to the finish straight to determine a winner.

Terenzo Bozzone out duels Ben Hoffman to take top spot in the Ironman 70.3 Lake Stevens results 2014 by one second with a finish time of 3:55:17.

For the pro women the race seemed to be set up nicely for Melanie McQuaid who is having a solid season.

Angela Naeth won the race and Melanie McQuaid was third. Only Bree Wee’s second place finish prevented a Canadian sweep of the podium as Magali Tisseyre finished fourth.

Angela Naeth was entered in the race but did not start.

Liz Lyles and Jessica Smith both went into the race with great chances of landing a spot on the podium as well.

Melanie McQuaid finished second to Meredith Kessler in Lake Stevens 2013 and would be attempting to make that next step to the top of the podium.

The rest of the field were three minutes or more behind the two leaders.
