Ironman 70.3 Miami results 2013

Triathletes from all over the world gathered in Miami to take their best shot at becoming part of the Ironman 70.3 Miami results 2013. The race was a sell-out and triathletes from over 55 countries answered the starting gun for the 1.2-mile swim in Biscayne Bay.

Things are starting to heat up on the Ironman front once again as the push for World Championship spots in the 2014 Ironman Hawaii and 70.3 Ironman World Championships begin in earnest.

Ironman 70.3 Austin also takes place on Sunday October 27, with Ironman Florida just a week away.

The initial starting list for the pro men was pretty long, but as with most Ironman races, many of those who enter don’t make it to the race.

Pre-race favorites who appeared to stand out were Terenzo Bozzone, Ben Collins, Leon Griffin, Matt Reed, and Nils Frommhold.

THE RACE

It was a group of nine men leading the way out of the water with Matt Reed posting the fastest time with his 24:02 clocking. Ben Collins was just two seconds behind him.

Only 24 seconds separated the top nine male pros. The group also included Lucas Cocha, Leon Griffin, and Terenzo Bozzone.

It was Ben Collins reaching the bike/run transition first with his very fast bike time of 2:02:51 but he had Nils Frommhold and Terenzo Bozzone right with him as they began the 13.1-mile run that would decide the winner. At this point the rest of the field was at least several minutes behind the three leaders.

It was Terenzo Bozzone who came out on top with his run time of 1:11:16 being enough to take the victory.

Filip Ospay came from quite far back and was full value for his second place finish. Nils Frommhold rounded out the podium.

Ben Collins put in a great effort and was near the front for much of the race, but could not stay with the leaders on the run.

The field for the pro women was very strong with Leanda Cave Helle Frederiksen and Nina Kraft entered in the race.

RACE DAY

It was Helle Frederiksen coming out of the water first with her swim time of 25:26. Nina Kraft and Leanda Cave were one minute back of the leader as the pro women began the 56-mile bike course.

Wow! What an incredible bike split by Helle Frederiksen. She was first into transition with her very fast time of 2:15:23. The closest competitor was Erika Csomor and she was almost a full three minutes back in 2:18:41. Leanda Cave was almost six minutes back. Nina Kraft was 13 minutes back as the 13.1-mile run began.

There was no catching Helle Frederiksen who was on top of her game today and she won the race easily with her finish time of 4:03:38. Erika Csomor was eight minutes back in second place and Eimear Mullan had a great run split of 1:17:41(the fastest of the day for pro women) and took the final spot on the podium
