Ironman 70.3 Mooseman results 2012

The citizens around Newfound Lake in New Hampshire are used to an invasion of hundreds of very fit triathletes in early June. The 11th edition of Ironman Mooseman takes place on Sunday June 3, 2012 and over 1000 triathletes are expected to take part

Over the years the race as developed it’s very own age-group and pro following who love the course and keep right on returning.

It is known an a tough course but it will have to be really something to over-match the conditions in Ironman 70.3 Hawaii that took place yesterday on Saturday June, 2, 2012.

THE COURSE

The 1.2 mile swim takes place in Newfound Lake and is a one-lap swim.

The two-loop bike course travels beside much of the shores of Newfound Lake before taking cyclists into the hillsides and farmlands of the surrounding area. There are a few very tough climbs and on the average race-day in the Mooseman, plenty of heat to deal with as well.

The run course is much the same as the bike course as it features it’s own challenging climbs. It is an out-and-back course.

The field for the pro men is not overly big, but there are several very capable entries who will be going after top spot. It would that Maxim Kriat would be the one to beat here and he may be challenged by the likes of Clayton Fettell who is more than able of challenging for the win.

Maxim is the defending champion of the race after holding off Paul Ambrose for a 7-second victory in the 2011 edition of the Mooseman.

THE RACE

From the sound of the starter’s gun it was Clayton Fettell who jumped into the lead with a very fast 23:05 swim split that gave him a two minute head-start heading out onto the bike course.

Actually, Mary Beth Ellis stayed closer to Fettell than the rest of the pro men.

The bike split by Fettell was even more dominating as he powered his way through the tough, hilly course in 02:18 33 and build up a lead of almost five minutes over second place Karl Bodine. Leaving the bike/run transition it was Maxim Kriat who was in third place a full 11 minutes back of Fettell.

From the outset of the women’s race it became clear that there would be a new champion in Ironman 70.3 Mooseman 2012 as Tisserye Magali and Mary Beth Ellis pulled away from the field in the swim and never looked back as they headed out onto the out-and-back run course.

At that point defending champion Lesley Paterson had almost eight minutes to make up when the run began.
