Top USA pros in hunt for podium in Ironman 70.3 Racine results 2017.
The race 1.2-mile point-to-point swim in Lake Michigan was cancelled due to extreme cold and the Triathlon became a Duathlon.
The race began with a time trial bike start.
The start list for the pro men featured many top USA pros. As the race began it looked like it would be up to Joe Gambles and Sam Appleton of Australia, or Andreas Raelert of Germany to prevent a USA sweep of the podium.
Andrew Starykowicz is normally untouchable on the bike course. It will be interesting to see how the elimination of the swim impacts the bike times.

Sam Appleton was biking strongly in the lead up to the 42 mile mark. He had a lead of just over a minute on Andrew Starykowicz who was in second. Tim Reed was about another two minutes back in third place.
Appleton finished the bike leg in 1:58:04. He was 1:06 in front of Starykowicz and 3:24 ahead of Tim Reed.
There was no catching Appleton and he takes top spot on the podium in the Ironman 70.3 Racine results 2017.
His winning time for the Duathlon was 3:10:35/
For the female pros it seemed that Holly Lawrence of Great Britain would be the favorite to perhaps top the podium in the Ironman 70.3 Racine results 2017. Several USA entries were capable of winning it all on their best effort.

True to form, it was Holly Lawrence with a solid lead of about three minutes over Jodie Robertson nearing the mid-point of the 66-mile bike.
Lawrence began the run with a lead of 4:04 on Jody Robertson. She maintained a lead of over three minutes as the pro women reached the ten mile mark.
Holly Lawrence lived up to her pre-race billing and crossed the finish line first in the Ironman 70.3 Racine results 2017. Jodie Robertson closed to within 56 seconds but had to settle for second place. Alissa Doehla raced well and was full value for her podium finish.
