Ironman Brazil results 2013

On Sunday May 26, 2013 just over 2000 triathletes from 34 countries took part in the 15th running of Ironman Brazil.

The race consisting of a 3.8km swim, 180km bike, and 42.2km marathon took place in Florianopolis, located in Southern Brazil.

From the very beginning of the race when the athletes started out on the 2-loop course all indications were that it would be a great day for Ironman racing with calm waters and ideal air temperature. At race start the temperature was 17C/63F and expected to level out at around 22C/72F later in the day.

Initially there were no surprises in the swim portion of the race. As expected, age-group athlete Rafael Ribeiro who led all swimmers out of the water in Brazil 2012 was up at the front in the early stages of the swim fighting it out with Tim O’Donnell and a few other male pros.

However as the pro men exited the water for the final time it was Luiz Francisco and Tim O’Donnell leading the way into the swim/bike transition area.

The swim times appeared to be unusually fast, but this course has always been known to be very fast. Not often do you see the three pro men under 50 minutes let alone the first 12 under 50 minutes. The winning times in 2012 were also extremely fast with the winner going in sub-44 minutes for 2.4 miles.
