Ironman Coeur d’alene results 2013

The Ironman Coeur d’alene results 2013 featured some great racing among pro men and women for tops spots on the podium on Sunday June 23, 2013.

This is the 10th editon of Ironman Coeur d’alene and year after year the race sells out and it speaks volumes for the popularity of the event.

The course features a two-loop 2.4-mile swim, two-loop 112-mile bike, and a two-loop 26.2-mile run.

Pro female triathletes Heather Wurtele, Caitlan Snow, and Bree Wee were three of the favorites going into the race.

Wurtele is well known for her strong biking abilities and Snow is capable of closing a lot of ground on the marathon course. Bree Wee is no stranger to the podium and went into the race as the 2012 Ironman Louisville champion.

For the pro men it was three-time CDA champion Viktor Zyemtsev along with Ben Hoffman and Tj Tollakson who were being touted as the early favorites, however there were most likely 7-8 pro men quite capable of making the podium.

All in all it was great field of pros gathered for the 2013 Coeur d’alene race.

THE RACE

Ben Hoffman stayed near the front in the swim and was one of the first three out of the water.

Hoffman took over the race on the bike course and his super-fast bike split of 4:30:47 put him well in front and he never looked back and is the Ironman Coeur d’alene champion for 2013.

As expected it was Viktor Zyemtsev also putting in a solid performance and taking second place, but he was quite far back of the winner Hoffman. TJ Tollakson finished in third spot.

The journey to the top of the podium was almost a carbon copy of the men’s race for Heather Wurtelle.

She also stayed close in the swim and used her strong biking skills to build an insurmountable lead and never look back and cruised through the marathon to win by a wide margin.

Also as expected, Caitlin Snow put in a strong performance and although she was almost 20 minutes back of the winner, her effort was good enough for second spot and some valuable Kona Ranking Points.

Uli Bromme also did very well with her third place finish and rounded out the podium spots for the pro women.
