Ironman Hawaii Lottery 2014

Check out the lucky 2014 Ironman Hawaii lottery winners!

For those of you who don’t know, the Ironman Hawaii lottery 2014 is open and you still have time to get in on the draw.

The lottery closes on February 28, 2014 so there are still a few weeks left to take the plunge.

If you are bitten by the Ironman bug, I would highly recommend you enter this lottery. There is so much history associated with the race in Kona and it would be pretty special to follow in the footsteps of so many amazing champions who have graced this course over the years.

Sure it’s a long-shot but if you feel you have little chance of ever qualifying for Hawaii by being at or near the top of your age-group then $50 is well worth the price for your chance at answering the starting gun at Kona Harbor in the Fall of 2014.

Plus there is nothing quite like the final few hundred meters down Ali’i Drive to the finish line.

I personally have met people who have entered the ironman Hawaii lottery 12-15 times with no success….yet.

Every year you enter you are given an extra chance to win the lottery. For example, if you entered in 2012 and 2013, you would have three chances instead of one in 2014.

You must enter in consecutive years or else you start over at one entry.

Also keep in mind that you will have to validate your entry by completing an Ironman or Ironman 70.3 race in the current year. This must be done before August 31, 2014.

One hundred lottery spots are available.

There are also 100 Legacy lottery spots.

In order to qualify for the legacy lottery there are four requirements that must be adhered to.

–It is necessary to have completed 12 Ironman Triathlons be December 31, 2013.

–You must have competed a full Ironman race in 2012 and 2013.

–It has to be your first Kona appearance. If you have already raced in Kona you cannot enter the legacy lottery.

–You must also register for another full Ironman race in 2014.

Needless to say, the Legacy Lottery is for very dedicated, hard-core Ironman triathletes who has put many years into the sport.

The advantage of the Legacy draw is that the odds are much better than the general lottery.

It stands to reason that there are not a lot of people in the world who can fulfill all four requirements necessary to be invited to take part in the legacy draw.

All the winners will be announced on Tuesday, April 15, 2014.

Best of luck if you are entered……

  1. Hi,
How many times are you allowed to enter the lottery for Kona..only once, per person, per year?
I did IMWA in Decemner 2013 ,so this could be my qualifying race, right?

    • Hi Rob!

      Thanks for your comment.

When you start out you have one entry, but for every consecutive year you apply you are given another entry. So if you entered the lottery 8 years in a row, you would have 8 entries in the 8th year. If you miss a year you have to start over.

Best of luck in the lottery
