It’s always an exciting time for fans of Ironman when a new venue is announced. Some triathletes may live nearby and know the area well, or perhaps just love to travel and take part in inaugural events in stunning locations.
And what a venue it is! Lake Tahoe is not only visually spectacular, it has also been a top travel destination for visitors from all over the world for many years. The inaugural Ironman Lake Tahoe will take place on Sunday, September 22, 2013.
That time frame is sandwiched in between Ironman Canada that normally goes on the last Sunday in August and the Ironman Hawaii World Championships.
IRONMAN LAKE TAHOE COURSE
Well it’s no mystery where the swim venue will be. When the starting gun sounds swimmers will begin their two-loop swim in Lake Tahoe from Kings Beach.
The 112-mile bike course is set up to be spectator friendly and is comprised of two and one-third loops.
For those who love a one-loop marathon, this is the race for you. Not only is it a single loop, but it takes place along the stunningly picturesque shores of Lake Tahoe. So when it begins to hurt perhaps taking in the view will help get you to the finish line. Well, here’s hoping anyway.
IRONMAN LAKE TAHOE REGISTRATION
Registration is scheduled for Monday at noon Pacific time. As a specific Monday date is not mentioned on Ironman live one would assume that it will be Monday June 18, 2012. When I checked out the site on Saturday June 16, 2012 registration was not open, so that date is most likely correct.
Entry fees for Ironman Lake Placid will set you back $675.00 and if you wait too long(and this one will most likely sell out quickly)you can always opt for the $1,350 Ironman Foundation entry.
If you miss that one and have a business that earns at least one million dollars a year you can always go for a Corporate entry for around $10,000 or so…….not sure on that one, but I believe that is a close estimate.
IRONMAN HAWAII QUALIFYING RACE
If you were to do the inaugural Ironman Mont-Tremblant or Ironman Canada in August of 2013 you would be eligible to qualify for Ironman Hawaii 2013.
However Ironman Tahoe 2013 will be a qualifying race for Ironman Hawaii 2014.
It’s a good bet that pros who do not earn enough Kona Ranking Points to make it to Kona 2013 will show up at Lake Tahoe and use any earned points toward Hawaii Ironman 2014.
Regardless, it will be special just to be part of this new edition to the Ironman family.
If you are thinking of registering it would probably be a good idea to do it on Monday June 18, 2012. This is one of those races that could fill in the first day.
