Ironman Los Cabos results 2013

It was a great day of Ironman racing in Los Cabos on Sunday March 17 and here is a look at the Ironman Los Cabos results 2013 for the pros.

It was the inaugural race for Los Cabos and the strong pro male and female fields made picking a winner of this one pretty difficult as there were many in the race quite capable of coming out on top.

Luke McKenzie, Bruno Clerbout, and Axel Zeebroek can all hold their own on the bike course, but it may come down to who can manage the heat best once they begin the marathon.

RACE DAY

From the very beginning it seemed to be shaping up for an excellent inaugural race in Los Cabos. At least for the swim it was great, but as the day wore on heat became a factor.

From the very beginning it looked like a great day for the inaugural Ironman Los Cabos-image from Ironman Live

Michelle Vesterby had an excellent swim with a finish time of 55:12 that gave her a lead of almost a minute over Katy Blakemore.

Michelle swam 57:44 in the 2012 World Championships in Kona and was 12th out of the water, and was also in 12th place at the finish line of the race with a time of 9:42:22, so going into the race she had the credentials to make the podium in Los Cabos.

Have a look at the results for Ironman Hawaii 2012. Lots of great pictures.

At about the 60km mark on the bike course it was Luke McKenzie holding a lead of just over one minute. He was followed by a pack of three riders that included Andres Castillo, Brett Carter, and Alex Zeebroek.

When they reached the 145km mark it was Timo Bracht, and Maik Twelsiek leading the way. Axel Zeebroek was two minutes back in third place followed closely by Paul Amey.

When they reached transition, Bracht and Twelsiek were virtually side-by-side with Zeebroek almost four minutes back.

In the women’s race it was Michelle Vesterby, Sofie Goos, and Lea Gellatly riding at the front at the 55km mark and by the time the first pro women reached the bike/run transition, Mareen Hufe joined the fray and took the lead.

However, it was anybody’s race at this point as only nine minutes separated the first five pro women.

For both the male and female pros, it came down to who saved the most for the run and who could manage their hydration the best as the temperature at 10:00 A.M. had already reached 27C/81F. It was far hotter by the time they began the marathon.

At the 25km mark Timo Bracht began to assert himself and established a six minute lead over Maik Twelsiek and a seven minute lead over Paul Amey.

Timo Bracht never relinquishes his lead and is the winner of the Inaugural Ironman Los Cabos with a time of 8:26:48.
