Ironman Los Cabos results 2014

When the gun sounded to begin the race on Sunday March 30, there were really no clear favorites when it came to which pro would top the Ironman Los Cabos results 2014.

As Ironman fields go this one appeared to be exceptionally balanced with half a dozen of the pro men and women quite capable of earning top honors.

Much depended on early season conditioning as it’s the first race for many of the pros. The 2014 WTC race season will be hitting it’s full stride soon with major races almost every weekend.

Last year Ironman Los Cabos 2013 was in it’s inaugural year and looking back, it was another field that featured plenty of potential winners.

Timo Bracht eventually broke away from the pack to claim victory for the pro men and Ericka Csomor won in a tight race for the women.

Trevor Delsault has returned this year after winning the close battle for second spot last year and was attempting to move up a notch on the podium today.

THE RACE

The 2.4-mile swim of Ironman Los Cabos began in the Sea of Cortez and could there possibly be a better swim venue to kick of an Ironman?

No real surprises in the swim with Stephen Bayliss leading the field out of the water by two minutes over TJ Tollakson, Daniel Fontana, and Jan Van Berkel who were all tightly bunched in second, third, and fourth positions.

The lead did not change all that much in the early stages of the 112 mile bike course. However Tj Tollakson had quickly made up the time he lost to Stephen Bayliss in the swim and was just 13 seconds back of Baylis at the 16-mile time check.

Daniel Fontana and Jan Van Berkel were also closing up on the leader and there was a three minute gap back to the fifth place rider.

At the 36-mile check point it was the same four riders at the front with Daniel Fontana taking his turn on the front and at the 56-mile halfway point the four leaders seemed content to bide their time and were all still riding together.

At 76 miles Passuello joined Fontano, Van Berkel, Bayliss, And Tollakson at the front.

The way it was looking at this point, it seemed that it would be one of these four who would be coming out on top of the Ironman Los Cabos results 2014.

It was Tollakson and Van Berkel who finally made a break and at the 95 mile mark they had a lead of around one minute on Bayliss and Fontana.

Van Berkel made a charge at the end of the 112 mile bike course and took three minute lead over Steven Bayliss and Daniel Fontana into the marathon.

Tollakson slipped back into fifth over four minutes off the pace and would eventually dropped out of the race.

Van Berkel held the lead for the early stages of the marathon but it was Daniel Fontana of Italy who stormed into the lead and at the half-way point of the marathon had a three minute lead over Stephen Bayliss of Great Britain who had moved into second.

But it was all Fontana the rest of the way and he won going away and is the Ironman Los Cabos Champion for 2014 with a course record time of 8:26:15.

At 36 miles Lester had the lead and stretched it to over 90 seconds with Chura in second.

Linsey Corbin, Katy Blakemore, and Karen Thibodeau were all in a pack less than three minutes off the lead, but things really began to change as the women approached the 80 mile mark of the bike course.

Carrie Lester had increased he lead to almost 90 seconds over Linsey Corbin and Karen Thibodeau was in third over 13 minutes back of Lester.

Lester carried her lead onto the run course and at the eight mile mark was still holding off Linsey Corbin who was just 1:51 behind her but slowly gaining ground.

The rest of the field was scattered all over the place and well back of the pace as runners began to hit the wall.

Karen Thibodeau dropped out of the race and Lisa Ribes was running in third place.

At 12.5 miles into the marathon Corbin caught up to Lester and moved into the lead.

She just continued to pull away and went on to come out on top of the Ironman Los Cabos results 2014.

Lisa Ribes ran a great last few miles and took second spot and now she has second and third place finishes in Los Cabos.
