Patrik Nilsson of Sweden was in a battle for second place with Slovakian Karol Dzalaj. They were just over two minutes back of the leader. Cameron Brown was in the mix in fourth place.

McNeice was caught and passed by both Nilsson and Timothy Beardall in the late stages of the bike course. Fredrik Croneberg and Karol Dzalaj were in fourth and fifth and as they began the run it was still a wide open affair.

After just 5k of the run course Beardall began to fall back and it was Nilsson all alone on the lead.

At the 30k mark the lead for Nilsson was over 15 minutes and it was fellow Swede Croneborg who had moved into second place.

Patrik Nilsson of Sweden crossed the finish line well in front and takes first place in the Ironman Malaysia results 2014. The winning time for Nilsson was 8:41:53 and not many pros were expected to make it in under nine hours because of extreme heat.
