In a very short period of time the venue has become a popular race destination for both pro and age-group triathletes.

As a result the race on Sunday August 17, 2014 drew an excellent contingent of pro triathletes from Europe.

Andreas Raelert, Daniel Halksworth, Jan Van Berkel, Christian Brader, Balazs Csoke, and Mathis Hecht all went into the race with legitimate opportunities to win a spot on the podium in the Ironman Mont Tremblant North American Championship results 2014.

Much the same could have been said for Australian Luke Bell and TJ Tollakson of the USA who were also in the mix in this very competitive race.

PRO MEN START LIST

Luke Bell
Andreas Raelert
Daniel Halksworth
Tj Tollakson
Matt Russell
Domenico Passuello
Bryan Rhodes
Jan Van Berkel
Elliot Holtham
Christian Brader
Balazs Csoke
Wolfgang Guembel
Martin Lamontagne Lacasse
Eric Limkemann
Simon Malo
Brendan Naef
Mathias Hecht

THE RACE

The good news for Luke Bell was that he was first out of the water with his swim time of 49:30. The bad news was that there were eight other pro men entering transition within 17 seconds of him. So ultimately nobody was able to take the early lead in the swim.

It was TJ Tolakson of the USA storming into the lead after recording a 180k bike split of 4:26:55. His nearest pursuer was Andreas Raelert who was about seven minutes back. There rest of the field was much further back and had lost of work to do on the 42k marathon course.

At the 10k mark his lead over Andreas Raelert was over eight minutes and growing.

With just less that 15k left to run TJ Tolakson was well in command of the race with his nearest rival almost 15 minutes back.

According to course marshals Tolakson was flying through the last portion of the marathon course and with 10k to run had a lead of 16 minutes over Daniel Halksworth who had moved past Andreas Raelert and taken over second place.

TJ Tolakson of the USA is a deserving winner and a great run propels him to the number one spot on the podium in the Ironman Mont-Tremblant results 2014 and he is the North American Ironman Champion.

His winning time of 8:16:17 is new course record for Ironman Mont-Tremblant.

The start list for the pro women was nowhere as deep as the men.

It seemed going into the race that Tine Deckers, Amber Ferreira, and Sara Gross were the ones most likely to contest for podium spots, but as is true with any Ironman race, you just never know what will happen once the starting gun sounds.

If Amber Ferreira has aspirations of racing in the Ironman Hawaii World Championships in Kona a win in this race will most likely catapult her into one of the final remaining five spots. I would look for a big effort from her even though she raced just recently.

Here are the current 2014 Kona Ranking Points standings for both pro men and women as the 2014 season qualifying window nears an end.

PRO WOMEN START LIST

Sara Gross
Amber Ferreira
Tine Deckers
Beth Shutt
Melanie Burke
Sarah Graves
Shanon Gallant

THE RACE

Not many surprises after the completion of the swim for the pro women. Sara Gross and Amber Ferreira came out of the water virtually together with the other favorite Tine Deckers less than a minute off the pace.

Somewhere in the late stages of the 180k bike course Tine Deckers dropped off the raydar and most likely ran into some difficulty.

Nearing the end of the bike course it was Amber Ferreira of the USA with an impressive lead of almost eight minutes over New Zealander Melanie Burke. Beth Shutt also of the USA was holding off Canadian Sara Gross for the final podium spot in the Ironman Mont-Tremblant results 2014.

Sara Gross had a delay for mechanical problems but didn’t let that stop her. She moved up through the field past Melanie Burke and Beth Shutt to take over second place and began to work on catching the leader Amber Ferreira.

With lots of racing left to do Ferreira had a lead of 5:03 on Sara Gross who was continuing to make up ground. When they crossed over the 17k mark of the 42k marathon Gross was on a faster average pace and was looking good.

Sara Gross continued to close ground and with 15k yet to run she was just 2:05 behind the leader. At the current pace of the two lead runners it seemed that by the 35k mark Gross would be in the lead.

As expected Canadian Sara Gross made the pass and moved into the lead and at the 35k mark she had a lead of 52 seconds over Amber Ferreira. Beth Shutt continued to hold down the final spot on the podium but was not gaining on Ferreira.

Sara Gross is the winner of Ironman Mont-Tremblant 2014 and is the North American Ironman Champion. Her winning time was 9:40:26.

Amber Ferreira was second and that comes off the heels of her victory in Ironman Lake Placid three weeks ago. Hopefully she will gain enough points for her second place finish to earn her a spot in the World Championship in Hawaii.
