Ironman Shepparton 70.3 results 2011

Top pros were on hand to try and come out on top of the
ironman shepparton 70.3 results 2011.

It was a big day for The Shepparton Triathlon Club as the Shepparton 70.3 was officially welcomed into the Ironman family.

Shepparton is 250 miles North of Melbourne, Australia in the state of Victoria. The former Shepparton half ironman secured a 3-year contract from the WTC.

THE COURSE

The Shepparton course will most certainly rank as one of the fastest in the Ironman 70.3 family. The bike course is fast and flat and includes much of the city of Shepparton and the surrounding county-side. The run course follows alongside the Goulburn river and is also very fast.

The excellent course is one of the reasons the race often attracts some of the top professionals and age-groupers from around the world.

Now Shepparton will attract even more pros with the increased prize money and World Championship points up for grabs. It’s also an opportunity for some of Australia’s most accomplished triathletes to compete on home soil.

THE RACE

For the women it was Lisa Marangon leading the way out of the swim/bike transition after a 25:20 swim. Nicole Ward, Samantha Warriner and Elly Franks, were all less than two minutes behind.

Leon Griffin

On the men’s side it was Matty White, Ollie Whistler, Paul Ambrose, and Matt Bailey leading the way with sub-24 minute swim times. There was a large group right behind them as they started out on the bike course.

In the bike it was Leon Griffin taking over the lead and he never looked back. Griffin had a bike time of 2:09:45 and was first to leave transition two.

Griffin won the race by a wide margin with a time of 3:51:27 and tops the podium in the ironman shepparton 70.3 results 2011.

Samantha Warriner

For the pro women, it was Elly Franks who had a big lead coming off the bike.

However Franks was unable to fend off Samantha Warriner who was by far the best in the run with a time of 1:27:52.

The excellent run split was good enough to give Samantha the win and top spot on the podium in the ironman shepparton 70.3 results 2011.

Her finish time was 4:25:25. This result also gave her a great start in gaining valuable points for next year’s 70.3 World Championships in Nevada.

It’s just becoming so competitive in the pro ranks with the ranking points system that is in place that every pro has to go all out in pretty well every race.
