IRONMAN SUPPORT

There’s no doubt that Ironman support is crucial and never forget the people who provide support and motivation for you as you embark on your Ironman journey.

Taking on the Ironman Triathlon involves a lot more than buying equipment, finding a coach, and training for the big day.

It’s important to keep in mind that often the people most important in your life will prove to be instrumental in your journey to the Ironman finish line.

One of the most important components of your preparation is the support, patience and understanding of the people who truly want you to succeed.

In many respects, attempting something as challenging as the Ironman Triathlon can be hard on relationships, and especially hard on marriages.

By it’s very nature, training for the Ironman is very demanding, and as a result, it’s almost like you have to be a bit selfish with your time.

It’s not a bad sort of selfish, because ultimately taking on the enormous challenge of the Ironman can do wonders for a person’s self-confidence and in many ways make them more appreciative of their lives.

The people who are closest to you will benefit in the long run, but in the meantime it’s important to remember how much their support means as you work towards your ultimate goal.

TAKE TIME OFF FROM TRAINING

Every once in a while take a full weekend off from your training and do something totally unrelated to swimming, biking, and running.

Use that time off and do something special for your family or significant other. It’s pretty easy to get so wrapped up in training, that you forget about the rest of your life.

It took me a lot of years to figure out how important rest is to the Ironman equation. For years I was afraid to miss two training days in a row for fear that I would somehow lose all that I’d worked so hard to gain.

I couldn’t have been more wrong. It probably explains why I had to struggle so much over my earlier races. I became virtually obsessed with training.

Most of the time I had left my best run or bike out on the training course somewhere when I would have been far better off resting and working on my social life and creating some sort of balance.

INCLUDE YOUR FAMILY IN YOUR IRONMAN JOURNEY

Ultimately, it was part of my ironman support that got me straightened out. It’s often the important people in your life who will keep you grounded and focused on what it truly important.

Many of the Ironman venues are excellent holiday locations. Why not take the whole family to the race and then treat them to a well-deserved holiday after the race? Besides, race-day will be exciting for everyone.

Regardless, be sure to temper your training and racing efforts with other aspects of life that are just as important to your well-being as you embark on your Ironman Triathlon journey.

You will also find out how important volunteers and spectators can be to you when race-day arrives. They are just as much a part of your Ironman support team as family and friends.
