IRONMAN WALES 2011 RESULTS
There were over 1300 athletes competing for spots in the inaugural Ironman Wales 2011 results as the race gets under-way.
Aaron Farlow and Kristin Moeller were both entered and come off victories in Ironman UK 2011 and hope to top the Ironman Wales 2011 results as well.
Weather conditions have meant a few changes to the swim course. The water temperature is a chilly 15c. The water temperature is far different from the ITU race in Beijing that went earlier in the day. They enjoyed a water temperature of 25c.
After the swim it was Oliver Simon in front as the leaders left transition one and began the bike leg of the race. Oliver is a local pro and will have plenty of crowd support.
Here are the top five men in the early stages of the bike.
Aaron Farlow Edo Van Der Meer Jeremy Jurkiewicz Bruno Clerbout Daniel Mueller
Anja Ippac is holding the lead in the women’s race almost 4 hours into the race and Stefanie Adam is in second.
It is Aaron Farlow who was holding a about a five-minute lead as he headed out onto the run course. Edo Van Der Meer, Markus Thomschke, and Daniel Mueller were the ones closest to him. The swim leader Oliver has fallen off the pace.
For the women it was still Anja Ippach with a substantial lead. There are actually 2 age-group athletes right up near the front but it seems unlikely that Anja will be caught by anyone today.
The last we heard of Garth Barfoot he was doing well on the bike course. Garth is the oldest competitor at 75 years old.
This is a great story. Luis Alvarez from Mexico is the only man to have raced every single Ironman in the world! He prides himself on doing the first of every new event.
This is his 77th Ironman race and we may be seeing Luis here in Canada August 19, 2012 for the inaugural Ironman Mont-Tremblent in Quebec. The race is sold out with over 2500 entries from 52 countries.
Late in the race Jeremy Jurkiewicz is making a charge on the leader Aaron Farlow but he may run out of time.
In a sprint to the finish Jermey Jurkiewicz catches Aaron Farlow and wins by 5 seconds.

Wow! Kristen Moeller has stormed into the lead of the women’s race. It’s quite surprising considering the lead that Anja had at one time.
Kristin Moeller is the Ironman Wales 2011 champion for the women!
Although it was not a very deep pro woman field, it was a very good result for Kristin who was a deserving winner.
