Ironman Wisconsin results 2012

It was a huge field of approximately 3000 athletes answering the starting gun on Sunday September 9 and Ironman Wisconsin results 2012 were outstanding in both the pro and age-group categories.

Ironman Wisconsin had the honor of being the first race to offer qualifying spots for Ironman Hawaii 2013. Fifty qualifying spots were available to age-group athletes and the pros were racing for $25,000 in cash prizes as well as Kona Ranking Points.

The Wisconsin course featured a two-loop 2.4 swim that took place in Lake Monona and normal water temperatures usually averaged around the balmy 75 degree mark.

Ironman Wisconsin featured a two-loop 112-mile bike leg that will took the athletes through the Serpentine hills and is one of the most challenging bike courses on the Ironman circuit.

The 26.2 mile run course was also two loops and wound it’s way through the downtown area of Madison as well as the University of Wisconsin campus.

RACE RESULTS

In the race for the pro men it was Andres Casillo Latorre jumping out in front with a swim time of 49:01 that put him over a minute ahead of Dominik Berger and over two minutes ahead of Ben Hoffman.

As can be expected it was Hillary Biscay coming out in front in the swim but for the pro women the race was much closer as Kathleen Caulkins and Kate Bevilaqua were just seven seconds apart in second and third as they exited the water.

The bike split for Ben Hoffman was 4:37:58 and that pretty much sewed up the victory for him as he crossed the finish line first with a time of 8:32:51. Eduardo Sturla outran the rest of the pro men and took second spot but was 14 minutes back of the winner. The race for the next four spots was quite close and it was Michael Goehner who rounded out the top three pro men who topped the Ironman Wisconsin results 2012.

Elizabeth Lyles of the United States crossed the finish line first for the pro women with a winning time of 9:34:35. She had a great race and was not considered to be one of the pre-race favorites. She was well back in the swim but posted the second-fastest bike time and was the only woman under 3 hours in the run with a time of 2:59:33.
